Lisa Schimmenti

Lisa is an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Ophthalmology & Visual Neurosciences. She specializes in hearing loss genetics, ophthalmic genetics, and disability development. She provides medical services for children with inborn metabolic disorders and consultations for babies who are at risk for inborn metabolic disorders.

Lisa and Bao Vang are researching how alcohol impacts PAX2 in zebrafish. In human babies, PAX2 plays a crucial role in eye development. They hope this research will give us a better understanding of the mechanisms behind the facial deformities associated with fetal alcohol syndrome in human babies.
