Each spring, the College of Biological Sciences Student Board brings together faculty, staff, and students to recognize outstanding members of the college community at the Golden Pipettes. The student-driven event highlights the many ways faculty and staff contribute to the College’s education mission, from mentorship to the use of memorable metaphors. Award recipients received tie-dyed lab coats to go along with the award. This year’s Golden Pipette winners include:

  • Excellence in Mentorship Award - Daniel Bond (Professor, Plant and Microbial Biology)
  • Innovator in Education - Robert Brooker (Professor, Genetics, Cell Biology and Development)
  • Sherlock Holmes of Science Award - Dana Davis (Associate Professor, Microbiology & Immunology)
  • Master of Memorable Metaphors Award - Emily Flynn (Teaching Assistant Professor, Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development)
  • Most Likely to Have a Line at Office Hours - Melissa Gardner (Professor, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biophysics)
  • Lifelong Learner Award - Deanna Koepp (Associate Professor, Genetics, Cell Biology and Development)
  • Academic Hype Machine Award - Sarah Malmquist (Assistant Professor, Biology Teaching and Learning)
  • Heart of CBS Award - Hiroshi Nakato (Professor, Genetics, Cell Biology and Development)
  • The Extra Mile Award - Christina Rowland (CBS Student Services)
  • Human Encyclopedia Award - George Weiblen (Professor, Plant and Microbial Biology)
