Competency areas

 

Self development – Recognizing growth areas and engaging in self-development opportunities to achieve one's fullest potential and benefit oneself and others. 

Perspective taking – Considering perspectives other than one's own and allowing new information, differing opinions, and others' experiences to impress upon one's thinking, understanding, and appreciation of others. 

Communication – Understanding and utilizing strategies to effectively listen and communicate both verbally and non-verbally with others one-on-one, in groups, and/or in front of a large audience. 

Empowerment – Sharing power, information, and resources with others to create a shared sense of ownership, accountability, and commitment regarding a task or process among the team. 

Collaboration – Working with others in an intentional way that ensures multiple voices and ideas are considered, utilizes individual skill sets, and benefits the group in reaching a common goal. Working collaboratively also requires effective management of disagreements to find common ground and foster a safe, respectful, and trusting environment. 

Problem-solving – Identifying and examining the problem, developing and assessing possible solutions, and selecting the most appropriate solution to the problem. 

Inclusion – Engaging in ways to cultivate a welcoming environment that includes everyone and fosters a greater sense of belonging and/or a shared commitment. 

Social responsibility – Acting in ways that uphold socially accepted standards of conduct and benefit the welfare of society and its members in an effort to foster healthy and supportive communities. 

Empathy – Demonstrating a deep understanding of others by attempting to experience their thoughts and feelings in an effort to appreciate their perspectives and show genuine care. 

Resiliency – Recovering after a setback, for both one's well-being and success, and to increase capacity to face stress, challenges, and adversity in the future.
