K-12 outreach
The College of Biological Sciences is dedicated to not only advancing the knowledge and education of students in our programs, but also reaching future scientists through classroom-based and immersive experiences. We are working to reach students where they're at and engage in teaching and conversations to help foster the interest of the biologists of tomorrow.

The college is working with units across the University of Minnesota to develop a holistic approach for the recruitment, retention, and training of underrepresented (BIPOC, women, LGBTQIA, and other marginalized identities) students in STEM fields through SciSpark Scholars. The SciSpark Scholars program partners with K-12 schools for hands-on, inquiry-based, science activities.
In addition to bringing thousands of K-12 students to the field station each year for firsthand encounters with biodiversity research and Minnesota's major ecosystems, Cedar Creek partners with local schools to deliver programming.
