Undergraduate Field Course Registration
Step 1: Apply
New this year: Before registering for our 3000- and 4000-level courses, students submit a brief application form. The application is not competitive for program eligibility; rather, it helps ensure students understand and agree to program expectations and allows us to share important information ahead of registration. The form also includes an optional question about scholarship interest. Scholarship decisions are made separately based on academic standing and financial need and do not affect eligibility for the program. For more information, visit our scholarships page.
Application form opens: February 12, 2026
Permission numbers are released on a rolling basis. While permission numbers allow you to register, they do not reserve a seat, so we recommend registering as soon as possible.
For Students from Outside of the University of Minnesota System
Complete the application form first.
After your form is received, you will get an email from [email protected] with further instructions on pre-requisite verification and consideration for scholarships.
Step 2: Register
All Itasca Field Biology 3000- and 4000-level courses require a permission number to register (see above).
Registration is administered through the UMN–Twin Cities system.
Registration is processed on a rolling basis until the course is full. While permission numbers allow you to register, they do not reserve a seat, so we recommend registering as soon as possible.
See the table below for registration opening dates and deadlines.
Students from Crookston, Duluth, Morris, or Rochester: You must work with your advisor on multi-institution enrollment before registering.
External or non-degree-seeking students: You must request a University of Minnesota student account before registering.
