The Itasca Station has well-equipped labs and a stockroom on-site with a wide variety of field and lab equipment to offer instructors and incoming researchers. Click on the tabs below for more details on what the station has available.
Lab equipment and supplies
The station has a variety of lab equipment, including fume hoods, -80 degree freezers, microscopes, vortexers, scales, and assorted glassware. A Millipore water purification system is also available for use. Safety equipment onsite includes eyewashes, safety showers, and dedicated flammables and acids cabinets for chemical storage.
While researchers and instructors are encouraged to bring their own consumable supplies (pipette tips, petri dishes, parafilm, etc.), the stockroom in Building 48 can supply you with any items you forgot to bring.
Field equipment and supplies
The station is well-stocked with field equipment, ranging from binoculars and aerial nets to Van Dorn samplers and waders. There are also rubber boots in all sizes available to borrow if your fieldwork will take you into wet/muddy areas.
Waterfront equipment
If your project will take you out on the water, the station has motorboats, rowboats, canoes, and a pontoon that you can borrow. Lifejackets are also available for use.
Winter equipment
Winter is a great time to work at the station, and there are plenty of resources available including snowshoes, ice augers, sleds, and safety gear to keep you warm and prepared for emergencies.
